Abstract:
A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of different levels of nitrogen supply on growth, yield and quality of sugar beet(
Beta vulgaris L.). Results showed that shoot and dry weight initially increased and then decreased with increased nitrogen levels at same stage. The root/shoot ratio was highest when N rate was 80 kg·hm
-2. N application had no significant influence on root nitrogen accumulation, while this index in leaves was significant, N application slowly increased the content of leaf starch firstly at early growth stages and subsequently increased at later growth stages, and then decreased slowly. Higher yield over 60 t·hm
-2 was achieved when N rates were 80 kg·hm
-2~160 kg·hm
-2. Comprehensive considering the growth and development, nitrogen metabolism, yield and quality of sugar beet, N application rate of 80 kg·hm
-2~160 kg·hm
-2is a reasonable choice in our test.
