Abstract:
Antibiotics saved countless lives but also caused serious environmental problems since they were discovered. In China, due to the uncontrolled use of antibiotics for a long time, a huge amount of antibiotics has flown into the environments along with human and animal excreta, which leads to additional environmental pollution.Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) has been considered as a new type of environmental pollutants. In this paper, we summarized the types, sources, distribution, dissemination and ecological risks of ARGs in environment. In addition, the technical approaches of how to reduce the abundance of antibiotic resistance genes were highlighted, and the future research avenues were prospected.
