Abstract:
Taking drought-tolerant maize variety Yedan-13 and drought-sensitive maize variety Danyu-13 as test materials,a field experiment was conducted to study the intensity and soluble sugar, soluble protein, and free amino acid contents in the bleeding sap at the seedling, jointing, booting, and filling stages, with an aim to understand the mechanisms of maize drought-tolerance from the viewpoint of bleeding sap.The results showed that the bleeding intensity was greater at seedling and jointing stages than at booting and filling stages. The soluble sugar content in the bleeding sap was the lowest at seedling stage but higher at jointing, booting, and filling stages, whereas the soluble protein and free amino acid contents were higher at seedling and filling stages but relatively lower at jointing and booting stages. As compared with drought-sensitive maize variety,drought-tolerant maize variety had significantly higher contents of soluble sugar and free amino acid contents in the bleeding sap at jointing, booting, and filling stages (
